Hanna Malm -  Birth Doula & Yoga Teacher

My interest in birth began with the first time I witnessed a home birth at the age of two. It was so peaceful that I fell asleep at the birth where my mother was the birth coach. After having 2 children and supporting a few friends and family with their birth experiences I completed my birth doula training through DONA (Doulas of North America) with Debbie Lavin in 2015. In 2016 I completed my abortion doula training with the Bay Area Doula Project (BADP). I truly believe in the intuitive powers that women posses. My goal is to support and empower women and their partners through all the different choices that are involved with reproduction.

As a yoga teacher I get to share my experience with the practice: one that connects all aspects of self – body, mind, and breath – and that by connecting to oneself on a deeper level we also connect to the world around us in a more true way. It is my belief that incorporating the elements of yoga into daily life in small ways, like taking the time to focus on breath for a moment or remembering posture, leads to a positive change in peoples lives. I also incorporate these practices into my doula work. My teaching style is encouraging, supportive, and honest, creating a space where you can get to know your body and expand its capabilities, a safe and grounded environment in which to grow and learn. Kai Shatteen- Full Spectrum Doula,  Student Midwife, & Placenta Encapsulator

As a proud Black Queer Mother that did not benefit from having a doula at her births, Kai humbly offers inclusive and compassionate care to all families. Kai define families as young parents, single parents, and partnered parents. She specializes in serving families that are queer, transgender or non-binary birthing people and people of color.

Kai is committed to using her calm, healing energy to support you as you birth your new beginning, as your life shifts to include a new being and as you become a parent. Kai believes that birthing people are warriors and should be honored, celebrated and graced with love. Birthing people have held and birthed new life into this Universe. She strives to witness your journey as you conquer a great challenge-giving birth to another human being. She supports all births- natural, medicated or cesarean births. She intends to help birthing people find their voice and speak up for what they need and deserve. It would be a blessing for Kai to be by your side during a most treasured moment.   Lori Jaffe - Postpartum Doula

The day I gave birth to my first baby the world became beautiful – my life went from black and white to Technicolor. Today when I work with clients, I believe it is my duty to help them discover the magnificence of their own birth process every step of the way.

As a DONA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, I have facilitated individualized births in homes, birth centers and hospitals throughout San Francisco and the East Bay. I am equally at home, and can help you feel at home, in any of these settings. My clients will attest that I am calm, empathetic, supportive and highly skilled. I take great pride in instilling confidence in parents, and it is my joy to do so.

I have raised three children. I know the nuances of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. I have spent time in motherhood’s trenches, and what I have learned enriches my professional doula training. I am, therefore, doubly qualified to educate and empower women in their own journey into motherhood.

My doula practice also benefits from the comprehensive knowledge I gained as an administrator in the postpartum unit at Berkeley’s Alta Bates Hospital. My experience as a certified massage therapist also strengthens my practice. In addition, I’m committed to creating nutritious meals for my family, and I enjoy helping other parents do the same.  India Tate - Birth Doula
